Grants Coordinator

Chess Educator

Summary
Chess Educator/Coach is part of a deeply committed team of educators who bring chess to some of NYC's most deserving students in high poverty schools. You will teach chess full-time to elementary through middle school aged students during the school day and in after school clubs, coach your students at weekend tournaments, and at national events, and promote a chess culture in the schools. The ideal candidate has high expectations for children, is extremely organized, proactive, enthusiastic, motivated, and works well in a team setting. This position reports to the Senior Program Manager.

Hours: Full-time, four weekdays and most Saturdays, local holiday tournaments, state/nationals tournaments and professional development.

Duties
§ Prepare and implement lesson plans for classes and clubs, which include: an aim, review, lesson, activity, assessment and the ability to work within a curriculum
§ Maintain daily teacher’s planner
§ Submit accurately completed paperwork each week
§ Attend all CIS training and development seminars
§ Maintain and take an inventory of chess materials at schools
§ Provide coaching and game analysis at (weekend and holiday) tournaments
§ National Tournaments: Travel to national tournaments and provide coaching
§ Summer Chess Camps: Provide four weeks of chess instruction

Qualifications
Have a substantial knowledge of chess; an advanced understanding of the game and tournament experience will be a plus
Ability to work independently and collaboratively
Experience working with children and/or youth
Prior teaching experience a +
Ability to travel nationally to tournaments in the spring
Compensation: This is a salaried position
