CIS Middle School Initiative visits the American Musuem of Natural History

On Sunday, December 4, 2011, Chess-in-the-Schools took three schools to the American Museum of Natural History as part of our Middle School Initiative, IS 62 from Brooklyn, MS 118 from the Bronx and the Robert F. Wagner, Jr. Secondary School in Queens.

We met at the Planetarium entrance and walked around a very interactive Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Hall of the Universe where students observed scientific experiments - the marshmallows expanding under pressure was a winner. Students also found their comparative weights on other planets very amusing. We then went to the Imax Theater to see a film on Tornadoes that was truly amazing, all the students were riveted to their seats, it was very realistic. The students had a great time and said that they could not wait for their next museum adventure.
