Chess in the Schools Dominates US Amateur East Championship
Chess in the Schools (CIS) sent 34 college bound students along with 3 staff members to the 2018 US Amateur East Championship over the Memorial Day Weekend. The well organized event was held at the Hyatt Regency in Morristown, NJ. The hotel and playing area were top notch. The site was a short walk from the NJ Transit train station and the area outside the hotel was loaded with food option which was great for large group like ours.
The tournament was a six-round swiss tournament held over three days (two rounds per day at 40/2; SD 30). For the entire tournament CIS led the way and in the end CIS won first place in all three sections: Championship, U1800, U1400.Here are the tournament winners:
